The future of coal is not looking good. For the first time in 100+ years, we produced more energy from renewable sources than the coal.

The unit economic is driving the adoption in recent years. Coal is 33% more expensive than solar and cost almost same to wind energy when we compare the direct cost of per kW production. If we take an account of the indirect cost such as environmental cost, health and social cost and more, coal becomes 42% and 37% more expensive than wind and solar, respectively.
